New Age Philosophies And Their Origins

By Andrea Davidson

To get an understanding of new age philosophies, it is important to know that the present- day cosmic humanist movements have their roots in romantic poets of the 1800s. Examples of the poets include Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman and Henry David Thoreau, who do not accept God of the bible. They instead choose to make lengthy writings concerning the quality of inspiring spirituality that is felt mostly through personal introspection.

The ideas presented by these poets did not begin to attract attention until the mid 20th century. Popular recording artists, film stars as well as eastern gurus had a part in it as they announced their New Age ideas to all throughout the world. Of late, well-known recording artists such as Madonna have claimed to embrace Hinduism, while other popular personalities notably Phil Jackson have publicly embraced Zen Buddhism. Popular actors like tom cruise and John Travolta have made their beliefs in scientology known.

Cosmic humanist ideas are now disseminated widely through television programs, bestselling books and films. New Age Philosophy is not in tandem with materialistic ideas as they do not explain or accept an all-knowing God. If the angle they view from is correct, and postulating that aspects of human existence are sacred, then every organism in the universe possesses a spiritual nature.

Human should be compelled to view reality from a supernatural perspective, if the spiritual life characteristics result in better consciousness or inner truth. This perspective is what leads cosmic humanists to non-naturalism philosophies that everything as we know it is supernatural. The philosophical position taken cosmic believers is that it is within a spiritual measurement that ultimate reality exists.

Cosmic humanists feel that God is the basis of all reality, ranging from the universe to a drop of the ocean. Support is given to this belief by a certain philosophy that entertains principles such as one of the most popular hypothesis. This hypothesis considers the earth as well as the entire universe as living organisms.

Like the philosophy of non-naturalism, new age philosophies affect their ontology as well as its epistemology. Based on the theory of knowledge, fans of new age movement emphasize on the importance of people connecting with higher selves. Humans can definitely know unlimited truth instinctively by forming a bond with the God-force in them.

Whenever humans look within, they are likely to find the truth, the only difference being that it is not in a manner that people commonly understand. Going by cosmic humans, the truth happens to be a feeling or an experience and consists of what a person can know. Every human creates their truth according to particular principle that goes like if something feels like the truth, most likely it is. The entire knowledge exists in the god-force in humans, and they can tap into the knowledge by connecting with the force.

Cosmic humanists ontology is also influenced by a certain non-naturalistic philosophy. The decisive reality or substance is placed within the God-force or Christ consciousness. The core of existence is God, who is also the life force in all things. Cosmic humanist philosophy happens to be is monistic, as is the case with other new age philosophies such as secular oriented humanism, Marxism as well as Leninism. The meaning of this is that the main reality is not material but spiritual.
