The first thing a sci fi reader has to have is a good imagination and an open mind. If you are sitting down to read a book about aliens, witches, or even zombies you are not going to enjoy the book if you are constantly thinking to yourself that would never happen not in a million years. Sci fi novels are so popular among all age groups simply because it takes you out of this world and into a world that you could only dream about.
With an open mind and imagination you can begin your book and instantly be transported to places you could otherwise never visit. People will read these books for different reasons but no matter what reason you are reading your book, you will still get the same thing from the book as everyone else. You will be able to leave this world behind and enter into a completely new world.
If you read one of these books and you do not like it, then it probably has something to do with you not having much of an imagination. You have to be able to build the world and people you are reading about inside your mind. If you can't do that then you are not going to be able to enjoy reading this type of book.

Some people may think that reading these books is ridiculous but those people have never read one of these books and spent a day being a star trooper protecting the galaxy from killer aliens.
One misconception about people that read these books is that only nerds and guys read these books. The main thing I want to clear up about this misconception is that reading is not "uncool" and it does not make you a "nerd" because you like to read sci fi.
Women like the smart guys, they also want a man with imagination. So if you are in high school making fun of some kid because he reads sci fi just remember he will grow up to have an amazing wife or girlfriend that likes the same things he likes.
You would be surprised at how many people in your school are reading the same books you are. They just try to hide it so they seem cooler. Reading is cool no matter what type of book you choose to read.
People that spend time reading tend to have a higher vocabulary than the people that don't read. You learn new words every time you read a new book. So do not ever let anyone make you feel bad about yourself because you enjoy reading sci fi.
