Discovering A New American Novelist Ideologies

By Tanisha Berg

While most authors are now transcending from bookstore to e-book, there are others who hope to remain alive and well on the best seller's list and in local stores. One is that of the new American novelist. Though, at times the line between fiction and non-fiction are often blurred now more than ever before.

These hidden and disguised truths often relate to current events going on in the world. If a novel only had characters talking to one another and no other scene information, readers would become bored quite quickly. One good reason for documenting amusements, events, travel and life changing moments. All of which can make for good scenes in a book after having been reformed, rethought, reorganized and disguised.

With new and emerging talent like that found in one edition of Ganta several years ago, there is no doubt this will be the case. The problem lies within all books becoming e-books which could then result in the closures of bookstores and libraries. As not all individuals are computer savvy, nor would all want to be, this can pose a problem for a number of individuals who love to read a good old fashion novel the old fashioned way.

Fiction, often based in truth, has to be cleverly disguised. Characters, based on actual individuals need to rearrange, reform and reorganize each character so that none can be identified. Writers always need to be careful with language so as not to create issues of libel or slander when using real individuals reformed into fictional characters. Otherwise, the profits one sees from a Novel may very well go to court costs in association with the content, whether intentional or otherwise.

Writers also need to have a wide vocabulary. An active imagination is key in writing, whether based in fact or fiction. As always, it is important that names be changed to protect the innocent when it comes to any actual activities associated with reality unless the writer is working on a biography, or auto-biography. Lastly, it's imperative the story be written in a way in which readers can follow and understand the plot, themes and synopsis of the storyline.

Otherwise, the story becomes a biography of the characters rather than a prize winning novel. Speaking of prize winning novels, while these are few and far apart, it can often be good to enter a variety of writing contests related to fiction whether working on fiction or non-fiction publications. These contests can not only help provide a sense of accomplishment to the winner but can also pay in cash or publication.

Fiction can often be a difficult place for new writers. It is often advised that those new to the craft submit a number of different articles and short stories before taking on the challenge of writing a book. Some tend to heed this advice, while others reject the notion believing that even a new writer can submit a publishable manuscript.

Authors wishing to become published can do so now much easier than ever before in history. Those wishing to publish material whether fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, short stories or white papers, can find a number of options to do so online. Those who prefer more traditional channels can still submit a query letter and outline to traditional publication houses.
