Parents Impressed By Celebrity Childrens Book Authors

By Sally Delacruz

Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of the late Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, is a best selling author of childrens books. Children love My Mommy Hung The Moon and Is There really a Human Race. She is on a long list of celebrity childrens book authors who have written more than one juvenile best selling tome.

Stepping out of her role in the horror genre is Julianne Moore with Freckleface Strawberry. Kristi Yamaguchi skates off the ice and into new territory with Dream Big, Little Pig. Parents and kids alike will greatly enjoy Steve Martins rhyming tome, Late For School.

News anchor, Katie Couric, uses her own daughters names for the characters in a tale about soccer competition called, The Blue Ribbon Day. There is a tale to arouse the imagination, The Very Fairy Princess by Julie Andrews. It also turns out that Jim Carrey applies his genius to more than acting by writing, How Roland Rolls.

Christmas book titles would fill another book. Now Jerry Seinfeld brings laughter to the special day, Halloween. His book has that same name. Other famous entertainers writing for kids are Gloria Estefan, Jewel and Sting. They all reach out and stir the imagination of kids everywhere.

There are many who come from the background of comedy. Jay Leno is one and Ricky Gervais another. The book, Sheetzucacapoopoo My Kind Of Dog is the product of Joy Behar, former host on The View.

From the mouths of babes come ideas and content as parents write what they know their own kiddies like. A parent often lives a life filled with comedy along with stress. Dogs and cats are in second place as material-gathering sources.

Kids love stories that rhyme. Dr. Seuss still heads the list of famous silly poem writers. Now Steve Martin joins the fray. Kids ask for his book to be read over and over. They never tire of it.

Each author, however, would be bereft if words were the only content that appealed to the kids. Illustrators fill the pages with beauty, hilarity and solemn accompaniment to their thought-provoking words. Kids love them.

Comedians seem to populate the list of those celebrities who write for children. There is Whoopi Goldberg, also hosting on The View and Jeff Foxworthy. The big question is not, how can they be so multi-talented, but, when do they have the time to write.

One would expect the great comedian Dr. Bill Cosby to be a fantastic writer of childrens books. After all, he holds a doctorate in education. The White House was home to Amy Carter, author of The Little Baby Snoogle-Fleeier.

Read All About It came from the imagination of Jenna Bush who also was a resident of that dwelling when her father George Bush held that office. Plus we have The Duchess of York, bringing a title from across the pond called Tea For Ruby. More royalty including Queen Latifa have contributed.

President Barack Obama penned a most touching book named, Of Thee I Sing. In it he pays tribute to thirteen of the most notable individuals in history for daughters Maliya and Sasha. It is said to bring readers to tears. We can only imagine how he found the time.
